I’m not into Valentine’s Day.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a hopeless romantic, and I’m glad that the world has a holiday dedicated to the greatest power on Earth: Love. But it has become something more like a day to buy expensive flowers and gifts and cheesy cards… that or people publicly whining that they’re single. Either way, it’s not for me.
This year, I got to spend the day with my family. Breakfast with my aunt, uncle, mother and grandparents, and then a day trip to Cambridge. No, it wasn’t romantic. No, I didn’t get a box of truffles or a dozen roses. But I had a great day.
I am so lucky that I got to spend my Valentine’s Day with my first love: Travel.
I got to explore a new city, see new sights and eat new things (beetroot and black currant chutney in a Panini, actually). Whatever makes you happy, whatever you love, that’s what you should make Valentine’s about.
Happy Valentine’s Day from My Gypsy Feet!
